Is npm down or is my install failing for another reason?
This checks npmjs.com. If the registry is up here but `npm install` fails, it's often a network, proxy, or lockfile issue rather than an npm outage. status.npmjs.org shows registry and website health separately.
Will an npm outage break my deploys?
It can, if your build fetches packages fresh from the registry. Caching a lockfile and a package proxy/mirror reduces the blast radius of registry downtime.
